It was an event in which appearances are deceiving.
On facebook, Lim Sheng Yu gathered just 5 out of 144 votes to win the 3-point contest.
Before the game, the commentators also picked Warriors’ Mario Wuysang and Heat’s Jai Reyes to win the three-point contest, while singled out Dragons’ Loh Shee Fai as the dark horse. But the real dark horse was seldom-used Slingers forward Lim Sheng Yu who had almost nothing mentioned about him until he stepped onto the court.
In the 1st round of the competition, he surprised the crowd with a score of 14, beating everybody and overtaking Leo Avenido of the Beermen who was then leading at 11. Sheng Yu would then square-off with Leo in the final round.
Then in the final round, Sheng Yu nailed 15 points to Leo’s 8 points to cap an ABL three-point shooting contest record and to win the competition.
Congratulations to Lim Sheng Yu! Now, he has claimed the right to be crowned the best three-point shooter in the ABL.
So, the Slingers had a guy who could really shoot on their bench all along. Well, Sheng Yu is 0 for 3 from range this season.
What’s he doing on the bench when we need our team to hit threes?
